Hiking the Tara River Canyon is a gorgeous travel adventure. The Tara River Canyon is 1.333 m deep, making it the deepest in Europe, and the second deepest in the world, after the Colorado canyon. Most of the Tara River (including its canyon) is under UNESCO protection as part of the Durmitor National Park. The last nearly 40 km is on the border between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro.

On Hiking Tara Canyon

Arriving in the morning hours (till 9h) to our base camp where we prepare a whole day trip to the nature with a home-made breakfast.
With vehicles we are moving along the canyon in the direction of the village Vranovina located on the border with Montenegro. In this trip (2h) we make a few breaks on the most beautiful viewpoints and when we reach the village we continue on foot up to the canyon edge (40min). This location is one of the deepest and most beautiful spots of canyon Tara. Here we make a break for snack (homemade specialties from this area) and enjoy the view of the grandeur of the canyon and the Durmitor mountain on the other side. In the afternoon we return to the car and drive to our base camp where lunch is waiting for us and this arrangement ends.
The arrangement can be extended or combined with some of our arrangements.

					  Must do!  - We went on a canoe trip. After a great welcome breakfast we went to the river. Because other tours start around 11:00 we started around 12:00. We had the river... read more to ourself. Also, we had a private tour because of the low season. Everyone was very friendly and the guide told us a lot about the surroundings. The river itself is very beautiful and worth a visit. Also a very good tip of our guide was to bring some cash while canoeing.  There are different bars along the river where you can buy a drink and relax a bit. After 4/5 hours and a couple of beers we arrived at the basecamp (sounds like a long time but it didn’t feel like a long time). We had an amazing time with Outdoor Tara. Thanks!

They not only helped us arrange accommodation at the nicest rafting camp with great food the... read more night before but also took us on a wonderful and exciting rafting trip. We loved the small group tour and on our trip it was just my family of 5 on one raft, which was super important. We were also able to leave early to avoid the rush on the river and everything was so flexible. We felt well taken care of the whole time. 

Cherry on top was the awesome videos taken from the GoPro that we got for free after the rafting trip!

For me this was the first time canyoning; it's really a unique experience and I understood that this is one of the best places to do it: the nature is beautiful and the route varied, including sliding down rocks and jumping from a few meters high into the water.

I would recommend to anyone who is looking for some adrenaline, water and fun!
