Project Description

Hrcavka Canyon – Canyoning in Sutjeska National Park

Hrcavka is one of Bosnia’s most exciting canyoning destinations, tucked inside the pristine wilderness of Sutjeska National Park. With crystal-clear natural pools, dramatic waterfalls, and a canyon that rewards both first-timers and experienced canyoneers, Hrcavka offers a half-day adventure unlike anything else in the region.

About Hrcavka Canyon

The canyon stretches approximately 2 kilometres through dense forest and sculpted rock. What makes it special is the variety — verticals up to 8 metres, natural waterslides, deep emerald pools, and jumps ranging from 2 to 5 metres. A massive magical waterfall marks the final section, providing an unforgettable exit from the gorge.

The water is sourced from mountain springs, keeping it exceptionally clear even in the height of summer.

Depending on your ability and conditions, we’ll always recommend the best canyon sections. For maximum experience and time with our instructors, we operate in small groups.

Getting There

The starting point is a 25-minute drive from Tjentište valley (Sutjeska National Park) or approximately 1 hour from Foca municipality. After arriving, a 30-minute approach hike brings you to the canyon entrance.

What the Canyon Is Like

  • Approach hike: 30 minutes

  • Time in canyon: 2 – 3.5 hours

  • Return hike: 10 minutes

  • Canyon length: 2 km

  • Verticals: up to 8m

  • Jumps: up to 5m

Difficulty & Who Can Do It

Hrcavka is rated beginner-friendly, making it accessible to almost anyone in reasonable health. The minimum age is 10 years, and family canyoning is particularly popular in July, August, and September when water temperatures are warmest.

The season runs June through October. Water levels and conditions vary – earlier in the season offers higher water and more powerful slides, while late summer brings calmer, warmer pools.
